Tattooed by Po'oino, Hawaii

Tattooed: Carlos
Tattooist: Po'oino (Tahitian tattooist working in Hawaii)
Carlos comments: The tattoo in the picture is Marquesan style and represents places I have traveled, my family, and the loss of my father a few years ago. I also have a full leg tattoo (also Marquesan style), but no photos of it. I started getting tattooed about 20 years ago as an expression of my respect for my heritage (I am Polynesian, Afro-Caribbean, and Indian).
My tattoo on my left arm was done over several sittings (5 maybe?) adding up to about 10-15 hours. I started with the shoulder about 4 or 5 years ago and gradually worked my way down to the elbow (not shown in the picture, which is over a year old). Most of it was done in Hawai'i and California. I plan to finish the whole arm in the next year or so.
