I don't think my wife put as much symbolic thought into hers, but she also chose a ray based on their grace underwater.
She also has two turtles as a symbol for family and opted to put a single eye on the back of each turtle. She also liked the tiare tahiti we saw there, so she added those as the wing tips of the ray.
